Nix Construction was contracted to demolish the old “Elephant House” at Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City.
Traditional demolition options were limited due to the enormity of the material needing to be removed within a limited space. Fortunately, we are equipped with a massive grinder attached to a trackhoe.
The advantage of using the grinder for demolition is that it reduces the original material to gravel size, which can then be hauled off site or left in place. In spite of the large amount of rebar, the grinder made short work of the old structure and, in less than two weeks, we’d made way for a new pachyderm pad.
